Security forces killed 10 terrorists belonging to the Indian-sponsored Fitna Al-Khawarij in multiple engagements in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) between Sept 15 and 17, while six soldiers embraced martyrdom in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast, the military's media wing said on Thursday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in North Waziristan district following reports of the presence of Khawarij – a term used for the terrorists belonging to the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
"During the conduct of the operation, own troops effectively engaged the khawarij location and after intense exchange of fire, six khawarij belonging to Indian-sponsored Fitna Al-Khawarij were sent to hell," the ISPR said in a statement on Thursday.
In another encounter in Hangu district, security forces successfully neutralised four more khawarij, it said. The ISPR added that weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the dead khawarij, who remained "actively involved in numerous terrorist activities" in the area.
Meanwhile, an improvised explosive device exploded on a security forces convoy, resulting in the martyrdom of six soldiers, the ISPR said. "Six brave sons of the soil rendered the ultimate sacrifice and embraced Shahadat," the statement said.
"These sacrifices of our brave soldiers further reinforce our unwavering commitment to safeguarding our nation at all costs," it said. The statement added that sanitisation operations were being conducted to eliminate any other Indian-sponsored Khawarij found in the area.
"The relentless Counter Terrorism campaign under vision 'Azm-e-Istehkam' (as approved by Federal Apex Committee on National Action Plan) by Security Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan will continue at full pace to wipe out the menace of foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country," it said.
