Major overhaul for Pakistan’s top cricket stadium | The Express Tribune

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed BDP to revitalise three major cricket stadiums in Pakistan, aiming to improve infrastructure and fan experiences. BDP Pattern, the sports and entertainment division of BDP, will focus on upgrading stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi ahead of the 2024-25 cricket season.

The project will enhance facilities at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Planned improvements include constructing additional tiers in at least two enclosures at Gaddafi Stadium, upgrading hospitality boxes at both the Gaddafi and National Bank Stadiums, adding new dressing rooms at the National Bank Stadium, and designing new roofs for the enclosures at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

PCB Chair Mohsin Naqvi highlighted the need for these renovations, noting that the current state of these venues has diminished the fan experience and discouraged spectators from attending live matches. He emphasised that the improvements are essential to attract not only local fans, especially younger generations, but also international visitors. Naqvi expressed concern over the neglected condition of Pakistan’s cricket venues, stating that none currently meet international standards. He affirmed the PCB’s responsibility to upgrade the stadiums in preparation for the Champions Trophy next year.

Dipesh Patel, principal of BDP Pattern, expressed pride in collaborating with the PCB on these iconic cricket grounds, stating that the renovations would enhance the fan experience and support the growth of cricket for future generations.
