Widespread protests swept across France on Tuesday over anger at the state of the country’s school system. The police responded with tear gas and water canons when some on the fringes of the marches turned violent. Among the demonstrators were parents who came to march alongside their children to support their cause – and, for some, to ensure their children could protest safely. After several teenagers were injured, they feared further clashes.
