Pakistan’s embassy in Iran on Sunday refuted rumours of an attack on Ambassador Imran Ahmed Siddiqui in Tehran, terming them “baseless”.
In a post on X, the embassy said it had taken note of “certain reports circulating in social media and other forums” concerning the Pakistani ambassador to Iran.
The embassy shared a post from another X account, which had posted a video showing a commotion amongst a large crowd of people in an unidentified building, with several people appearing to engage in physical altercations.
The account that posted the video alleged, citing reports, that the Pakistani ambassador had been attacked in Tehran at an unspecified event where he had been invited. It did not specify the nature or origin of the reports.
The account claimed that Siddiqui was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
“The embassy categorically clarifies that these reports are baseless and factually incorrect,” the post by Pakistan’s embassy in Tehran said.
The ambassador himself has not made any statement on his X account about the rumours.
Pakistan appointed Ambassador Siddiqui as its envoy to neighbouring Iran in February. Before assuming his current post, he served as Pakistan’s ambassador to Bangladesh.
Last month, the information ministry refuted rumours that Pakistan’s envoy in London was “confronted and attacked with a white powder-like substance”.
It said the video being shared on social media was “fake and is being circulated with a misleading caption”.
