The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday expressed grave concern over the health of its incarcerated founder Imran Khan, saying his blood pressure had reached 192 in recent days, and demanded his immediate transfer to Shifa International Hospital for independent medical treatment under the supervision of his personal physicians.
The statement came two days after a meeting between Imran and his lawyer at Adiala jail on Nov 2, during which the former prime minister reportedly conveyed concerns about his health.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has allowed Imran to meet his family members, lawyers and other associates twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. However, despite repeated court orders directing the authorities to facilitate these meetings, access to the former prime minister by his family and party leaders has remained largely restricted in recent months.
In the meeting's aftermath, Imran's sister Rubina Khan said her brother had conveyed through his lawyer that his blood pressure had shot up to 192. She alleged that he had accused the authorities of failing to provide him with proper medical treatment.

She said the lawyer had been allowed to meet Imran briefly after seven months, adding that access to a lawyer was a basic right of every prisoner.
“Imran Khan has never had high blood pressure. As recently as a year ago, his blood pressure was normal,” she said, adding that the family’s medical advisers considered it unusual for someone over 70 to suddenly develop high blood pressure.
“As his family, we demand that he be immediately admitted to an independent medical institution in Islamabad for proper treatment, in the presence of his personal doctor and a doctor of my choice,” Rubina said.
She also referred to statements by the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, UN experts, the UN Committee Against Torture and Amnesty International concerning Imran's detention and treatment.
Rubina said the Supreme Court's August 2026 decision requiring immediate medical treatment at Shifa hospital had not been implemented.
She alleged that there had previously been multiple attempts on her brother's life, including an assassination attempt, and said the family feared for his safety in prison.
“If he does not receive medical treatment now, anything that happens to him would amount to cold-blooded murder,” she said.
Sharing his aunt's statement on X, Imran's son Kasim said: “This high blood pressure is not normal. It is the direct result of this isolation.”
“If he is not freed soon, he will die in this cell,” he added.
PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja called it an "extremely alarming matter”.
He further said: "We now, as a party, need to adopt an effective strategy regarding the health of Khan Sahib and Bushri Bibi. An effective strategy cannot be based merely on excitement and anger … In this regard, every doubt and apprehension must be eliminated. After consultation with all authorised bodies of the family and the party, including the parliamentary party, a full-force voice will be raised both inside the country and abroad. Protecting Khan Sahib's health is the duty of the entire nation."

In a statement shared by the PTI on X, Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said repeated fluctuations in Imran's blood pressure were a matter of extreme concern, adding that protecting his health was the responsibility of the state and the entire nation.
He accused the government of endangering the life and fundamental rights of the country's most popular political leader by denying him adequate medical facilities, access to his family and treatment of his choice.

Akram demanded immediate implementation of the Supreme Court's August 18 order directing Imran's transfer to Shifa International Hospital, where he should be treated by his personal and family-appointed doctors.
He also called for the release of Imran, Bushra Bibi and all political prisoners detained in Kot Lakhpat jail and elsewhere in the country. He condemned raids on PTI ministers in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and what he described as violations of the sanctity of homes in Punjab and K-P.
“Political victimisation and repression must end,” he said, urging the government to release Imran and pursue national reconciliation to put the country back on the path of peace, prosperity and progress.
