The Ministry of Finance has issued a notification announcing a reduction of only Rs4.74 in the price of petrol, while it has been revealed that a false statement was attributed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding a bigger reduction in petroleum product prices.

According to the notification from the Ministry of Finance, the price of petrol per litre has been reduced by Rs4.74 and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs3.84 for the next fortnight.

Following this reduction, the price of petrol per litre has been set at Rs268.36, while the price of HSD per litre is Rs270.22. These new prices took effect from midnight and will remain in place until midnight on 15 June.

Meanwhile, according to Express News, it has come to light that a directive attributed to PM Shehbaz, regarding the reduction of petroleum product prices, was falsely issued.

The prime minister has expressed surprise over the incident and has formed a committee to investigate the matter.

Earlier, a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), stated that PM Shehbaz had directed the finance ministry to reduce Rs15.40 per litre in petrol and Rs7.90 per litre in HSD price.
