Victoria is ready for 444 Tesla Megapacks to be installed

Victoria is spending $1 billion on building 4.5 gigawatts of new renewable energy generation and storage projects.

The first project as part of this funding by the SEC is another massive grid-scale battery to help with the transition to renewable energy. This will create another one of the world’s biggest battery projects, known as the Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub (MREH).

Minister for Energy & Resources Lily D’Amborsio has announced the site is now ready for the delivery of a massive 444 Tesla Megapacks, making it easily the largest in the country and one of the largest in the world.

SEC is investing $245 million to develop the Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub (MREH), one of the world’s largest battery projects. This will create 1.6 GWh / 600 MW of capacity for Victoria’s grid, aligning with the state objectives.

  • 2030: 50% reduction in emissions (compared to 2005 levels).
  • 2035: 75-80% reduction in emissions (compared to 2005 levels).
  • 2045: Net-zero emissions.

The Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub (MREH) is scheduled to become operational in 2025.

Victoria’s previous Big Battery featured 212 Powerwalls for a 350 MW capacity.
