Two unarmed Pakistani civilians were killed and another injured when India's Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire on the three near the international border in Kasur, according to security sources.
The three residents of Ladhar village had moved only a few steps beyond a border pillar when BSF personnel targeted them without warning, the sources said. They added the firing left two civilians dead and another injured. The three men were unarmed at the time of the incident, according to the security sources.
The deceased were identified as Azmat Rasool, son of Attaullah, and Mohsin Jutt, both residents of Jattan Wali Haveli in Ladhar. The security sources said none of the three men had attempted to cross the border fence. Nevertheless, the Indian forces opened fire on them.
The sources also said that Indian media had described the civilians as infiltrators, continuing a pattern of portraying such incidents as false-flag operations. They said the firing on the civilians constituted an open violation of the border agreement and standard operating procedures governing the international border.
The incident comes amid heightened sensitivity along the international border, where established procedures are intended to regulate movement and prevent incidents involving civilians living close to the frontier.
