Annie Andrews wins in South Carolina, where no Democrat has won Senate election since 1998, while Roy Cooper triumphs in North Carolina
Democrats are on the path to retaking the US Senate, after a pair of historic victories that indicate voters are ready to hand them back control of Congress’s upper chamber.
Roy Cooper has won the Senate election in North Carolina, a swing state that hasn’t sent a Democrat to the chamber in 18 years, the Associated Press projects. Perhaps even more significantly, Annie Andrews will be the next senator from deep-red South Carolina, where no Democrat has won a Senate election since 1998.
