KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Tuesday granted an additional 10 days to the newly appointed investigation officer (IO) to complete the probe into the Mir Raza murder case.
A day earlier, the court had issued a show-cause notice to the head of the joint investigation team (JIT), police officer Irfan Baloch, and sought his response over the police failure to submit the final charge sheet in the case.
On Tuesday, co-opted IO DSP Fareed Ahmed Khan filed an application before the judicial magistrate (East), seeking an additional 14 days to complete the investigation.
In the application, the DSP informed the court that he had been appointed as a co-opted investigation officer in the case and had received a case file containing more than 1,100 pages.
He added that the JIT was formed to investigate the case thoroughly.
After hearing the investigation officer, the court granted him an additional 10 days to complete the probe.
The 25-year-old businessman, Mir Raza, had gone missing on July 28 after leaving his home in PECHS.
His body, bearing a through-and-through gunshot wound, was found in bushes in Gulistan-i-Jauhar a day later.
The Sindh home department had formed the JIT, led by DIG Irfan Baloch, on the recommendation of a single-member judicial commission comprising Justice Omar Sial of the Sindh High Court.
The team was tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza’s death and possible negligence in the case.
Two previous high-level investigation teams had failed to identify the culprit or establish how Mir Raza’s body came to be found in mysterious circumstances.
